Missing 16-year-old Polish girl located in Lefkada; returns to Poland

A 16-year-old Polish girl who disappeared on June 1 from her country was found in the island of Lefkada, western Greece, by the Greek NGO “The Smile of the Child” in cooperation with international organizations for child protection and the Greek authorities.

The girl travelled to Greece without authorities discovering she had been reported missing.
Late on June 8, the NGO received a call from a woman who wanted to keep her anonymity, who said she had seen a 16-year-old girl accompanied by an older young man in Lefkada. The NGO alerted the SIRENE Bureaux and Lefkada police to the information it had received. Authorities located the girl in the hotel she was staying.

According to Lefkada police station, the 16-year-old has returned to Poland and her family. No details were provided on the reason she travelled to Greece.
