Mitsotakis denies ‘unfounded’ reports of ND involvement in departures from ruling majority

Reports that main opposition New Democracy was in some way involved in the recent departures of MPs from the ruling majority bloc were “not only unfounded but entirely ridiculous,” ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis commented on Wednesday, while on a working visit to Berlin.

He dismissed scenarios putting ND behind the events that had pared down the government’s parliamentary majority, noting that it “is shedding members for reasons that are absolutely clear to anyone following events in Greece.”

“Everyone can draw their own conclusions and interpretation of a government in a complete panic, which is crumbling politically and socially and has ceased to have any real support in Greek society,” he said, repeating a demand for elections as soon as possible.
