Mitsotakis: We should ask for sanctions if Turkey escalates its provocations

For months, Turkey is showing total disrespect to the international law, stated main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday. ”It systematically violates Cyprus’ sovereignty rights inside its EEZ” he said.

Mitsotakis also underlined that “if there is further escalation of such actions it is totally imperative for Greece and Cyprus to ask from the European Union to impose sanctions against Turkey”.

Referring to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ stance, he said that “National unity and determination is necessary, at this crucial moment. But, in no way, the seriousness of the condition justifies its irresponsible dramatisation. The meeting of the government bodies at the weekend is not good for the national position and the national line which all of us must follow”.
