More than 20 people were arrested on Wednesday during an ongoing operation by the Attica’s security division against a criminal gang which issued residence and work permits for women from eastern European countries through fake marriages or civil partnerships.
These permits were issued by the relevant authorities. In connection to this case, police officials also uncovered more than 200 cases of false paternity certifications, illegal adoptions and procuring. Among those arrested are three civil servants, two notaries, one lawyer and one policeman.
The operation and investigation are continuing and a press conference will be held by the security division once it has been completed.
