NATO’s MARCOM Commander on two-day visit to Greece

The Commander of NATO’s Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), Vice Admiral Clive CC Johnstone, is on a two-day visit to Greece to discuss the organization’s operation in the Aegean to halt refugee flows with Greek military officials.

During his visit to the Defence ministry, Johnstone met with the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, with whom they discussed the operation of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) and with the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis.

He then visited the Fleet Headquarters, where he met with the Commander in Chief of Hellenic Fleet, Vice Admiral Ioannis Pavlopoulos, who briefed him on the organization and operational activities of the HQ.

The MARCOM Commander visited the submarine “Pipinos” and the gunboat “Grigoropoulos” which is docked at the Salamis Naval Base.
