Any proposal on the name of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYROM) should resolve all three aspects of the dispute, New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday, during a visit to Yannitsa.
“Any solution discussed on this issue must include all the aspects of this big problem,” he said, referring to the line presented by a previous ND government at the NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008.
“It is not just the name -the name is one of the three issues. The second is the uses of the name, what we call erga omnes. This means that everyone should use the same name, not just in bilateral [Greece-FYROM] relations. The third is the issue of irredentism and of the unacceptable claims with maps, statues, names and the attempt to hijack our history and the historical heritage of Macedonia. This cannot be accepted,” he added.
