New Democracy leads electoral race with 33.25 pct; SYRIZA follows with 23.78 pct

New Democracy (ND) leads the electoral race for the European parliament with 33.25 percent (7 seats in the European parliament), with 72.28 percent of the votes counted so far.

Ruling SYRIZA came second with 23.78 percent (6 seats), followed by Kinima Allagis (KINAL) with 7.46 percent (2 seats).

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) came fourth with 5.55 percent (2 seats) followed by Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avghi) with 4.86 percent (2 seats), Elliniki Lysi with 4.12 percent (1 seat) and Mera25 with 3.15 percent (1 seat).

Also, New Democracy is leading the electoral race in 12 out of 13 regions on Monday. Regional governors were elected in the first round in five regions, including the sole leading candidate not supported by New Democracy, who was elected in the region of Crete.

The following are elected from the first Sunday: Apostolos Tzitzikostas in the Region of Macedonia with 61.99 percent; : Stavros Arnaoutakis in Crete with 60.81 percent; Alexandros Kachrimanis in Epirus with 56.97 percent; Kostas Agorastos in Thessaly with 55.42 percent; Giorgos Hatzimarkos in the South Aegean with 54.99 percent.

A second round of elections will be held next Sunday in the following regions: Attica, Macedonia, Thrace, North Aegean, Greece, Ionian Islands, Peloponnese and Central Greece.
