“Greece is a modern, pluralistic, European Democracy, in which the freedom of opinion and criticism to power is not negotiable, even though some people seek the opposite,” main opposition New Democracy (ND) said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The fact is that from what Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has said over the last two years, he only means one thing: ‘Do not read newspapers!’ Quite simply because Mr. Tsipras and the SYRIZA – ANEL government are against the free and independent information and speak against whatever they cannot manipulate,” according to the statement.
“They prove it at every opportunity, intervening in an authoritarian way even in the constitutionally entrenched procedures of the Parliament. They adopt the most extreme anti-democratic practices, with a view either to close or to control the media. They will not succeed in this!”
