New Democracy (ND)leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting on Monday with US ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt was held at Pyatt’s initiative who referred to the Novartis case, according to a ND announcement on Tuesday.
“He (Pyatt) said to ND leader that no Greek politician is involved in the Novartis case according to the investigation conducted by the FBI. He noted that FBI’s investigation, currently in progress, does not involve Greek politicians and is focused on violations of the US law and that the US side does not wish whatever involvement in the respective investigation carried out by the Greek Justice as they refer to a possible violation of the Greek legislation” said ND in an annoucement on Tuesday.
The party also clarified that “after their meeting Mitsotakis and Pyatt agreed an announcement to be issued that will include the ambassador’s relevant statement which was written in Greek and in English by their staff to avoid whatever misunderstanding.
“FBI’s investigation focuses on crimes violating the US law. There is no FBI investigation on Greek politicians. This was the statement the Greek government’s spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos questioned and afterwards through leaks Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras himself despite the fact that Mr. Pyatt reproduced it on the Twitter”.
Concluding, ND’s announcement said “these are the facts and each one can’t draw his own conclusions on who responsibly informs the citizens and who attempts to manipulate them and to set up unfounded plot against his political opponents”.
