Netanyahu: EastMed Pipeline project is ‘very promising’

The EastMed Pipeline project, which will bring natural gas to Europe from Israel’s deposits through Cyprus, is “very promising” and “could be a true revolution”, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades after the Greece-Cyprus-Israel Trilateral Summit in Thessaloniki.

After the summit, the three countries signed the Greece-Cyprus-Israel Declaration. Netanyahu said the preliminary studies on the project seem to show that the project is “very promising”.

“It is something that makes me particularly happy,” he said, pointing out that “mind energy” is the real wealth today which creates infinite more potential. This is why the three countries agreed to student exchanges between Greeks, Cypriots and Israelis to promote the culture of innovation which is already changing the future of the three countries and will continue to do so in the future, he added.

“I was particularly impressed by the commitment of Greece and Cyprus in this direction – in Israel it is taken for granted. Our cooperation derives naturally and I look forward to our next meeting,” he said.
