New Democracy slams Tsipras for briefing Archbishop before opposition parties

Main opposition party New Democracy accused on Thursday Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of “unprecedented irresponsibility” for choosing to inform the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos II first on the developments concerning talks on the name dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), instead of the opposition parties.

“It is now obvious that the prime minister puts his petty party aspirations before national interest. Today, he thought it appropriate to inform the Archbishop before the [political] parties, when a few days earlier the Foreign Ministry equated the representatives of the Church with Golden Dawn,” the party said in a press release and criticised the government’s secrecy during the negotiations.

“[This is] Unprecedented irresponsibility, from a dangerous government that now assumes exclusive responsibility for whatever happens,” it added.
