New Democracy spokesperson Maria Spyraki lashes out at government

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) spokesperson Maria Spyraki criticised the government on Thursday over its stance regarding the two Greek soldiers jailed in Turkey.

Specifically, she accused the government of not taking any initiatives to ensure their return, adding that Defence Minister Panos Kammenos was ‘absent.’

Asked about the statement made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, she replied that ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis was in the US and had raised the issue of the return of the two Greek soldiers.

Regarding the funds recently released by the EU to Turkey, Spyraki said that this concerns the issue of refugees and is part of the EU-Turkey agreement.

Asked whether New Democracy is considering its withdrawal from parliament’s preliminary investigative committee on Novartis, she said that a number of issues have emerged.
