New Democracy will not vote for bill on gender identity, Mitsotakis says

For New Democracy there are no citizens with fewer rights and we do not care if that concerns a few, main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday during his speech in parliament.

He also accused the government of pretending to be progressive and taking advantage of trasgender people, adding that ND will not vote for the government’s draft law.

The legal recognition of gender identity is necessary, Mitsotakis said, adding that ND has proven its respect for human rights. “New Democracy is a party that has set a framework for equal rights,” he underlined.

The main opposition leader also accused the government of rushing to bring the bill to parliament ahead of the draft budget in a “desperate attempt to hide their universal failure in all areas.”
