The next German government, under Angela Merkel, will “decisively support Europe,” French Minister of European Affairs Nathalie Loiseau said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Thursday, on the occasion of her visit to Greece.
She added that the French President and the German Chancellor “have already prepared the ground for decisions in important areas” in December 2017.
On the refugee-migrant issue, she said that “better integration of refugees and better prevention of illegal migration” was needed. France, she stressed, wants to speed up reforms that will strengthen cross-border controls and promote common rules on asylum and solidarity within the EU.
Finally, for Greece, she stated that “positive signs are already visible that indicate [Greece’s] ability to return to growth and investment,” and promised that France should stand by Greece so that by the summer of 2018 the country is back on a positive path.
