UN special envoy Nimetz expresses optimism over a solution to the FYROM name issue

UN special envoy on the FYROM name issue Matthew Nimetz expressed optimism that a solution would be found between Greece and its northern neighbor, in comments from Skopje on Thursday, according to information from Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

Following a meeting with FYROM Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov, Nimetz said, “There are differences in the positions of the two countries, but I am an optimist.”

There is a momentum in the negotiations, which are at an advanced stage, the envoy said, adding that both countries’ governments want the old issue to be resolved. He said a solution was possible within a few weeks, at most a few months.
