No decision on tax-free allowance before June, International Monetary Fund spokesman says

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will wait until June before making decisions on the next step regarding the tax-free income allowance in Greece, an IMF spokesman said here on Wednesday.

IMF sources, in statements to ANA, said the upward revision of primary surplus forecasts by the fund was a positive development but noted that it was premature to discuss bringing forward a reduction of the tax-free allowance from 2019 at this stage, pointing out that the IMF was still waiting for a series of elements that must be taken into account before a final decision is made.

“In June we will carry out a review of the fiscal situation and the policies that will be needed to achieve a primary surplus of 3.5 pct of GDP in a way that is sustainable and growth-friendly, based on the facts available at that time,” the spokesman said in response to questions.
