Number of migrants and refugees on northern Aegean islands fell below 9,000

The number of refugees and migrants stranded on the island of Lesvos fell below 4,000 for the first time after a long period. As a result the number of stranded on the northern Aegean islands that have sought asylum and their request has been not examined yet is now under 9,000.

According to police, 8,988 people were on Friday on the northern Aegean islands. 3,969 of them are hosted in hotspots on Lesvos, 3,342 in hotspots on Chios and 1,677 on Samos.

Moreover, in the last 24 hours 45 persons arrived on Lesvos, 17 on Chios while no arrivals were reported on the island of Samos.
