Old Acropolis Museum building to be upgraded through bidding process

A project to upgrade the old Acropolis Museum building, next to the Parthenon, will be opened to tendering after the necessary reports are completed by the end of September, the Ministry of Culture said on Thursday.

Following a meeting, the ministry said in an announcement that the building upgrade has been included in NSRF funding for 2014-2020 and the region of Attica.

Other projects is the replacement of the special elevator for mobility impaired visitors, the completion of all works related to protection from thunderstorms by November 15, and improvements in the illumination of the Acropolis at night, based on the original plans in 2004 by acclaimed lightning designer Pierre Bideau.
