In collaboration with the Sports Academies it supports and its employee, OPAP implemented actions that promote an active lifestyle as part of the European Week of Sport, #BeActive, with great success and increased participation compared to the previous year.
In 97 physical activity actions organized for members of the OPAP Corporate Responsibility program, Sports Academies, and the company’s employees, participant exceeded 10,900, recognizing the importance of exercise for physical and mental health.
Specifically, the Academies participating in the program, organized matches between children and parent in mixed groups, friendly tournaments between children as well as training sessions and exercises for parents with the guidance of Academy coaches.
Meanwhile, a special festival was organized in Athens at an Academy supported by the program. Members of the academy, gold Rio Paralympic medalists Pavlos Mamalos and Che Jon Fernandes as well as OPAP employees took part. Children and adults played in an 8 vs. 8 football tournament. The Paralympians showed the value of physical activity to young athletes while also giving them the opportunity, through a personal experience, to compete like Paralympic athletes in weightlifting and shot put.

The #BeActive European Week of Sport is a European Commission initiative with the General Secretariat of Sport coordinating activities in Greece. This year, it was held for the second time in 33 countries and it aims to promote participation in sport and make citizens more aware of the benefits of physical exercise.
