Over 10,000 migrants returned voluntarily to their country between June ’16 – April ’18

Over 10,000 voluntary repatriations of migrants were carried out between June 2016 and April 2018, said the International Organisation for Migration on Friday.

According to the announcement, 10,576 voluntary repatriations to 84 countries have been arranged through the AVRR programme funded by the European Union and the Greek government.

The majority of the migrants were Pakistanis ( 3,105), Iraqis (1,980) Afghans (1,906), Georgians (1,044) and Algerians (986).

The programme is open to third-country nationals that do not want to remain in Greece, asylum-seekers whose applications have been rejected or asylum-seekers that wish to withdraw their application.
