Over 16,500 asylum seekers transferred from islands to mainland Greece in 2018

More than 16,500 asylum seekers have been transferred to mainland Greece from Reception and Identification Centres (RIC) on eastern Aegean islands in 2018, Ministry for Migration Policy sources told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.

According to the same sources, 500 people are arriving in Piraeus on Saturday from Samos, Lesvos, Chios and Kos. They will be followed by another 300 on Sunday and Monday, while another 900 are scheduled to be transferred from the islands by the end of next week.
