Papadimoulis tells ‘Die Tageszeitung’ he expects a compromise at next Eurogroup

European Parliament Vice-President and SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis said on Thursday he expects a compromise and “white smoke” between Greece and its creditors at the Eurogroup meeting on Feb. 20, according to an interview published in German newspaper “Die Tageszeitung”.

Commenting on the delay to close the second program review, he said: “The reason is the excessive demands of the IMF which bets on additional austerity measures. Another reason is that the IMF demands a larger debt relief and lower primary surpluses from Athens, while the German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble opposes both these issues. We are facing an absurd situation where Mr. Schaeuble says he wants the IMF’s participation but rejects any compromise with it.”
