Parliament ratifies directive protecting EU citizens abroad

The Greek Parliament ratified a draft law incorporating into Greek law a European Union directive providing consular protection to EU citizens in countries where they are not representaed by a consulate.

All parties voted for it except for extreme-right Golden Dawn, which declared “present”.

Alternate FM Giorgos Katrougalos responsible for European affairs pointed out that the agreement introduces the idea of European citizenship and serves as a model of the EU’s deeper integration.
