Parliament scientific services ‘damning’ about draft bill on demonstrations and protests, Charitsis claims

Main opposition SYRIZA spokesperson Alexis Charitsis on Wednesday said that a same-day report published by parliamentary services was damning about the legality of the government’s draft bill on public gatherings, demonstrations and protests, finding it full of unconstitutional provisions.

Speaking on ERA public radio, Charitsis said the bill should be withdrawn but the government was instead choosing to pass it now with the support of the Movement for Change (KINAL) party “as a sorry companion”, as it feared that social unrest will peak as a result of the very difficult state to which it has led the economy.

He called on the government to change its economic policy to benefit the social majority.
