Parts of southeastern Crete declare state of emergency after windstorms

The regional governor of Crete, Stavros Arnaoutakis, declared a state of emergency for the municipalities of Iepapetra and communities in municipalities of Sitia and Viannos which were affected by windstorms that wreaked havoc in numerous greenhouses and farmland in southeastern Crete last week. The decision is valid for a week.

In meeting at his office on Tuesday and in his visits to destroyed farmlands, Arnaoutakis expressed his support to affected farmers noting the next step is to claim the economic support needed to restore their production.
