The Patras-Pyrgos highway construction, a project beset with chronic problems including fatal car accidents, will be assumed again by Olympia Odos consortium as a single project, Infrastructure Minister Kostas Karamanlis said on Tuesday.
He added that Olympia Odos would carry out the project under a concession contract, without additional cost to the state than the previous circumstances that called for eight subdivided contracts.
Karamanlis announced the decision to ruling New Democracy deputies of the areas, Achaia and Ilia, and Western Greece Regional Director Nektarios Farmakis, as well as the committee overseeing the project. If all goes according to schedule, he said, work will begin in 2020 and if there are no unexpected delays, the project will be ready in 2023.
“It goes without saying that the construction companies of five of the current concessions will be paid out normally as the law foresees, and we thank them for their services and understanding,” the minister said.
