Pavlopoulos extends his condolences for passing of Helmut Kohl, a ‘European visionary’

President Prokopis Pavlopoulos hailed the legacy of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who passed away on Friday at 87, saying he was a “European visionary”.

“Helmut Kohl will go down in history as the leader of the German reunification in 1990, which he insightfully included in the process of European integration having, as a great European visionary, full awareness of the common European destiny,” the president said in his statement which was delivered to Germany through the Greek embassy in Berlin.

Pavlopoulos said the late Chancellor was a leading European and emblematic international personality, as well as the longest-serving Chancellor in the history of his country, “serving with exemplary consistency and success from this position for sixteen years”.
