Petition on Greek island VAT admitted for examination by PETI

A petition submitted by the mayors of northern and southern Aegean islands concerning the abolition of the lower VAT status in 2018 and the unequal treatment of the islands compared with mainland Greece was accepted as admissible for examination by the European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions (PETI).

PETI asked the European Commission to conduct a preliminary investigation into the relevant information on the issue presented in the report, which was forwarded to other parliamentary committees, such as the Committee on Regional Development, the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs and the Intergroup on Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas.
