Petsas: The new school year will begin on September 7

Τhe schools will open on September 7, said government spokesperson Stelios Petsas on Monday speaking to OPEN TV.

“We will have to face again the same main challenges” he said underlining that “we must observe the personal health measures and the safety distances”.

He left open the possibility for more protection measures if needed adding that we are not in the condition we were in March as the average number of incidents in comparison with patients in ICU and those intubated is much lower. “The increased incidents have not yet put pressure to the health system”, he explained

On the Greek-Turkish relations he said that it is clear that our partners throughout the world condemn the Turkish provocations. “We are defending our sovereign rights always with respect to the good neighbourly relations and to the international law and the law of the sea” he said and underlined that there is only one pending issue with Turkey and this is the demarcation of the maritime borders.

He also characterised US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu constructive and useful “It reaffirmed that USA’s stance in the last months is far away from the equal distances policy” he said adding that their position is clear, the Greek islands have continental shelf and Exclusive Economic Zones, and condemn the Turkish provocative actions. “The US is a useful partner in this conjuncture in order to have a way out in the phase of de-escalation”.

Additionally, he said that there will be an extension to the employees and enterprises stricken by the coronavirus support measures and also a wider framework of measures in the direction of tax and contribution reductions.
