Pharmacies excluded from deregulated Sunday trading laws

Pharmacies will be expressly excluded from the deregulated Sunday trading laws applying to other retailers under technical legislative improvements tabled by Health Minister Andreas Xanthos.

The improvements tabled late on Friday also change the time when pharmacy night duty shifts begin to 21:00 instead of 20:00 in the evening.

The changes are made to the draft omnibus bill legislating for the prior actions to conclude the third review of the Greek programme, in response to demands made by pharmacists. Xanthos noted that in the context of complete deregulation, the government was establishing rules to ensure better access for citizens and the viability of small and medium-sized pharmacies.
