Piraeus can play a leading role in Greek tourism, its mayor Moralis tells ANA

Piraeus can play a leading role in Greek tourism, its mayor Yiannis Moralis said in an interview with the Athens Macedonian News Agency’s (ANA) radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM.

Moralis stressed that the effort began two years ago and added: With the completion of the metro works, the implementation of the private investments and the municipality’s infrastructure works, Piraeus can become a tourist destination.

Piraeus receives around 10 million tourists every year and an additional 1.2 million tourists from the cruise sector, but most of them do not spend time in the city. The aim is to persuade these tourists to stay in the city, Moralis said.
