Piraeus deputy governor requests emergency meeting over Salamina oil spill

The deputy governor of Piraeus Giorgos Gavrilis requested an emergency meeting at the ministry of shipping on Wednesday to discuss and evaluate the developments on the large oil spill that leaked from a small tanker that sank while being anchored off Salamina’s eastern coast on Sunday.

According to the latest information, parts of the oil slick appeared near the beaches of Freattyda, a residential area of Piraeus, with locals noticing a foul smell.

Piraeus mayor Giannis Moralis spoke with Gavrilis and the head of the city’s coast guard Stamatis Raptis to request that all the necessary actions are taken to stop the pollution.
