PM attends meeting of SYRIZA Political Council on Cyprus, 2nd review and other issues

Ruling SYRIZA’s Political Council on Friday discussed the Cyprus issue, the second review of the Greek programme, SYRIZA’s decision to launch a political campaign and the Council of State’s ruling on television licences. The meeting was attended by SYRIZA president and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

According to sources, the Political Council concluded that positive steps had been made regarding the Cyprus issue, though some issues remained open. It was stressed that Greece continues to seek a fair a viable solution in the framework of UN resolutions and Cyprus’s status as an EU member-state.

There was a briefing by Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos concerning the second review, discussion on the party’s campaign and a discussion of the implications of the CoS ruling, with the Council noting that this made an immediate tender to issue television licences imperative since the ruling highlighted that the previous operating regime was illegal.
