PM to announce committee for examining financials of education on Friday

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is to announce the formation of a committee to look in the financial aspects of the education system on Friday, Education Minister Costantinos Gavroglou informed Parliament on Thursday. The minister pointed out that such a committee, which will look into the financials of education from preschool to PhDs, is unprecented in the history of the Greek State.

He said the government had invited the opposition parties to propose experts of their choosing and welcomed the fact that they had all responded “generously”, with the exception of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and Golden Dawn.

Gavroglou said the government was making a commitment that in three years it will have “closed the gaps” in education, at least in terms of inelastic costs, “in order to stop the problems that exist up until today.” He said the committee will hold its first meeting on Friday and predicted that it will have generated the first results by June.
