“Greece proceeds to the restructuring of the agricultural production model, with focus on healthy cooperative companies and producer organizations,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Friday said during a meeting with the European Commissioner responsible for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan, at the Maximos Mansion.
Tsipras called on the EU to financially support this effort, adding that the Greek economy has already recorded positive results and high absorption rates of European structural and investment funds.
He also stressed the importance of the European Investment Bank’s financial assistance and with favourable terms to the government’s development initiatives.
The two officials agreed on the flexible implementation of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the increase of the budget for the support of the smaller islands of the Aegean, as well as on the European Commission taking all necessary measures for the Protection of the Product Designation of Origin.
Rural Development Minister Evangelos Apostolou and Alternate Minister Markos Bolaris attended the meeting.
“It was a good, positive meeting,” Apostolou said.
