Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras spoke on the phone with US Vice President Mike Pence on Saturday.
The Greek premier briefed Pence on the developments in the Balkans and the negotiations on the FYROM name issue.
According to government sources, Tsipras reiterated to Pence the Greek positions.
On his part, the Vice President of USA recognised Greece’s efforts for a solution and its role in the region’s future. He said that a historic opportunity window for solution exists for reaching an agreement with Skopje over the name, adding however, that the time factor should be taken into account.
Moreover, he said he supports UN special mediator for FYROM name issue Matthew Nimetz’s solution proposals.
