An official delegation representing the bid submitted by the Polish city of Lodz to host the EXPO 2022 paid a visit to Greece’s economy ministry on Thursday, where they met the ministry’s general secretary Ilias Xanthakos and the head of Enterprise Greece Christos Staikos. The delegation was accompanied by the Polish Ambassador in Athens Anna Barbarzak.
Led by Lodz Mayor Hanna Zdanowska, the delegation presented the city’s proposal for hosting EXPO 2022 based on the theme “City Re:Invented” and urban renewal. Special emphasis was given to the EXPO as an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and invitations were extended to Staikos and Xanthakos to visit Lodz.
Xanthakos, who will serving as Greece’s General Commissioner at the EXPO 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan, promised to carefully examine the Polish city’s bid and also referred to the prospects for further improving bilateral relations, especially in exports and tourism. Staikos offered to brief the Polish business community on investment opportunities offered by Greece in the agricultural and food sectors, energy and tourism.
The vote to select the host-city for the EXPO 2022 and EXPO 2023 will be held in November this year.
