Positive prospects for Greek cruise sector noted at Seatrade 2018

The positive prospects for Greece’s cruise sector in 2018 were noted during meetings held by Tourism Policy Secretary General Giorgos Tziallas at the international tourism exhibition Seatrade Cruise Global 2018 at Fort Lauderdale in the USA.

Tziallas represented Greece at the largest international exhibition on sea tourism, in which the Greek Tourism Organisation had a joint pavilion with the Union of Greek Ports.

He held meetings with the head of CLIA Europe and of the International Cruise Union Kyriakos Anastasiades, the managing director of TUI Cruises Wybcke Meier, the managing director of MSC Cruises Gianni Onorato and the chief of MedCruise, Airam Diaz Pastor.

Moreover, he also held meetings with the vice president of Carnival Corporation Giora Israel, the president of Celestyal Cruises Leslie Peden and the managing director of tourist agency Navigator Travel & Tourist Services Andreas Stylianopoulos.

Discussion focused on the potential for developing new tourism destinations and thematic tourist products, the infrastructure for handling larger cruise ships – in line with world trends – and how to boost direct flights in order to strengthen Greece’s position as a competitive Mediterranean and European destination.
