Many parts of Hania prefecture on Crete were without power on Thursday due to an as-yet unidentified problem at a Public Power Corporation (PPC) substation on the island. The power cuts extend along the island’s northern road axis and regions of the Hania plain, Souda and parts of the city of Hania.
According to the PPC, the cause of the problem as not yet been found and power is expected to be restored late on Thursday night. Worst affected is the north of Hania, where most of the region’s hotels are located, while the rain that has been falling since Thursday afternoon has created further complications.
PPC technicians are now checking whether the problem is the result of a short circuit in a part of the network that is underground.
