Prefect declares a state of emergency in Zakynthos after weekend flooding

Zakynthos Island was declared in a state of emergency on Tuesday after the weekend downpour caused floods and serious damages to the road network. The decision, taken by the prefect of Ionian Islands Theodoros Galiatsos, took effect today and will expire in six months, on May 26, 2017.

Local crews will undertake the immediate work of restoring damages, opening roads blocked by landslides and pumping water from flooded houses and stores.
