The ultimate goal is guarantee the security and prosperity of our citizens and to create prospects for development for all the people of Europe, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday, in statements during the fifth Southern EU Countries (MED7) Summit taking place in Nicosia.
Anastasiades expressed his great satisfaction over the contents of the Declaration of Nikosia, which was adopted during the Summit.
On the subject of migration, he said that all participating countries agreed that what is needed is a collaborative approach promoting unity and solidarity.
Concerning energy, one of the main pillars of cooperation between the seven countries, Anastasiades said that discussions were centered on security and on the goal of turning the Mediterranean into an alternative pathway for transferring energy to Europe.
He then thanked all leaders for supporting the Republic of Cyprus every time the latter exercises its sovereign right for research and exploitation of the natural resources within its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
Finally, regarding the Cyprus issue, Anastasiades said that his government is aiming for a viable solution that is in congruence with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.
