President Pavlopoulos calls for defence of Europe against populism and racism

In a message shortly after midnight on Sunday, after attending the Easter Vigil service in Kalamata, southern Greece, President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos appealed to European citizens to protect the European Union against the forces of populism and racism that seek to undermine it in the upcoming European elections:

“I hope that the ineffable miracle and undying light of Christ’s resurrection will illuminate our people and our nation in our course toward fulfilling our historic mission. Especially for the defence, on terms of complete unity, of our country, our national issues and our national rights, as well as for the progress and development of the country with respect for the principles and values of justice, especially social justice.

“I also hope that the ineffable miracle and undying light of Christ’s resurrection illuminates the citizens of our great European family, so that with their verdict they defend the European edifice against the conglomerations of populism and racism that seek to harm it, always having in mind that these things essentially harm humanity, European democracy and European culture.”Happy holidays!”
