Prime Minister Tsipras to meet Archbishop Ieronymos on Wednesday

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has agreed to meet Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece at the Maximos Mansion at 19:30 on Wednesday.

The Church of Greece Synod had earlier requested a meeting with the prime minister in order to present the views of the Church concerning the new curriculum for religious studies classes in schools.

It has also requested a meeting with the head of the Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos, the junior party in Greece’s ruling coalition.

The Church intends to ask that the teaching of the new curriculum be postponed, at least for this year, in order to “begin a sincere dialogue from scratch.” The archbishop will be accompanied by three metropolitans and his legal adviser, Theodoros Papageorgiou.
