Private sector deposits up 1.542 billion euros in April

Private sector deposits increased by 1.542 billion euros in April, after an increase of 1.217 billion in the previous month, with the annual growth rate rising to 6.0 pct from 5.5 pct in March, the Bank of Greece said on Tuesday.

In April 2019, corporate deposits increased by 709 million euros, compared with an increase of 699 million in the previous month, while the annual growth rate stood at 5.3 pct from 6.2 pct in the previous month. In particular, deposits from non-financial corporations increased by 535 million euros, against an increase of 894 million in the previous month. Deposits placed by insurance corporations and other financial intermediaries increased by 175 million, compared with a decrease of 196 million in the previous month.

In April 2019, deposits placed by households and private non-profit institutions increased by 833 million euros, compared with an increase of 518 million in the previous month and the annual growth rate stood at 6.2 pct from 5.4 pct in the previous month.

In April 2019, deposits placed by the general government decreased by 2,431 million euros, compared with a decrease of 828 million in the previous month and the annual growth rate stood at 2.5 pct from 18.5 pct in the previous month.

In April 2019, the annual growth rate of total credit extended to the domestic economy stood at zero from -0.6 pct in the previous month, while the monthly net flow was negative at 92 million, compared with a positive net flow of 522 million in the previous month. The annual growth rate of total deposits stood at 5.7 pct from 6.9 pct in the previous month and the monthly net flow was negative at 889 million euros, compared with a positive net flow of 389 million in March 2019.
