Prosecutors reject infrastructure minister’s lawsuit against Digea

Two public prosecutors rejected a lawsuit by Infrastructure and Transports Minister Christos Spirtzis against Digea, Greece’s digital signal provider, saying the tender granting the company the exclusive rights for digital terrestrial television was legal.

Spirtzis imputed to the members of the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) a series of irregularities and illegal acts dating from 2012 in the tender procedures for rights to digital frequencies.

After examining the case, prosecutors concluded that it must be filed, noting that based on the law provision 4070/2012, if the contractor has a separate legal entity from its franchisors, there is no legal conflict. Therefore the tender and the procedure followed were in line with the relevant laws.

The Appeals prosecutor will now have the final say on whether to file the case or not.
