Protesting firemen force their way into ministry basement, demand to meet Gerovasili

There were clashes with protesting firemen marching in central Athens on Wednesday afternoon after they were denied access to the Administrative Reconstruction Ministry on Vassilisis Sofias Avenue. After their entry was barred, one group broke a glass window on the ground floor and now remain inside, demanding a meeting with Administrative Reconstruction Minister Olga Gerovasili.

The firemen hired on five-year contracts in 2012 are currently in the midst of a nationwide protest rally, demanding either permanent positions or the renewal of their contracts when these expire on Thursday.

At the same time, a five-member committee representing all the security forces is at the General Accounting Office and demanding a meeting with Alternate Finance Minister George Chouliarakis to present their demands.
