Registered unemployed dropped 0.28 pct on monthly basis in December, OAED reports

The number of registered unemployed in Greece in December 2016 fell 0.28 pct compared with the previous month, the Greek Manpower Employment Organisation (OAED) reported on Thursday.

There were 910,468 registered unemployed seeking work in December, down from 913,044 in November, amounting to a decline of 2,576.

The number of registered unemployed not seeking work increased by 5.75 pct on a monthly basis in December, however, rising to 162,184 from 153,372 in November, for an increase of 8,812.

Of the 910,468 registered unemployed seeking work in December, 53.69 pct have been registered as unemployed for more than 12 months and 46.31 pct for less than 12 month. A majority of 61.97 pct are women and 40.41 pct are aged 30-44 years old. Roughly 78 pct are educated to secondary level or less and 91.84 pct are Greek nationals.

According to the same figures, the total number of unemployed receiving benefits in December reached 184,662, sharply up from 118,361 in November for an increase of 56.02 pct.
