The volume of retail sales dropped 11 pct in December 2020, with the volume of sales rising only in supermarkets and in pharmacies, Hellenic Statistical Authority said in a report on Friday. More specifically, the volume of sales fell 59.1 pct in clothing-footwear, 27.8 pct in fuel-lubricants, 26.9 pct in bookstores, 17.9 pct in furniture-home equipment and 11.2 pct in department stores. On the other hand, retail sales rose in pharmaceuticals-cosmetics (21.4 pct), supermarkets (10.8 pct) and food/beverage (7.0 pct).
The retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) fell 11.0 pct in December 2020 compared with December 2019, but rose 7.5 pct from November 2020. The seasonally-adjusted index fell 3.0 pct in December from November 2020.
The retail sales turnover index (turnover in current prices) dropped 12.3 pct in December 2020 compared with December 2019, but rose 8.5 pct from November 2020. The seasonally-adjusted index fell 2.8 pct in December from November 2020.
