Series of aftershocks follow 5.4R quake in Chalkidiki

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale was recorded 13:48 in Chalkidiki, 23 km southwest of Athos peninsula and 229 km north-northwest of Athens, the Geodynamics Institute of Athens National Observatory said on Sunday.

The quake’s focal depth was 10km and was felt in many parts of Chalkidiki and Thessaloniki.

Over 10 aftershocks followed that 5.4 Richter earthquake recorded at 13:48 on Sunday in the sea region of northern Aegean between Mt Athos and Sithonia peninsulas in Chalkidiki. The strongest aftershock has reached 4.5 on the Richter scale.
