Shipping minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis meets IMO head in London

Improving working and living conditions on the ships and the effective implementation of the maritime labour convention were the focus of a meeting between Shipping Ministry Panagiotis Kouroumblis and the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Kitack Lim in London.

The two officials agreed to strengthen maritime education through the effective implementation of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers (STCW).

Lim also expressed his appreciation for the Greek maritime community and coast guard for the daily rescues of refugees and migrants.

Kouroumblis also met with the president and board of the Greek Shipping Cooperation Committee, with whom he discussed issues of maritime interest.
